Woman in Tech
Schuberg Philis is always committed to finding more ways in which we can contribute and encourage diversity in tech. For a few years now, we have participated in the European Women in Tech conference. This annual conference is hosted in Amsterdam and is a place where women from all over the world get together to elevate each other, provide amazing career development advice, and find networking opportunities for women in all stages of their careers. In 2019, Schuberg Philis gave talks about the security mindset in tech and how to navigate a flat-hierarchy company. More than 10 women from Schuberg Philis joined the event and engaged meaningfully with a great number of conference participants. Schuberg Philis is honored and happy to be able to represent women in all parts of the company, from recruitment to software and hardware engineering. We are committed to continue participating in Women in Tech and other initiatives like this in the future.

Christmas dinner innovations
Every year, chefs Paul and Jeroen visit several food markets to see what’s new in the gastronomic industry. Looking for new innovations, they stumbled upon a food stand called “3Dbyflow.com.” This Dutch startup located at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven (a place where people work on developing future technologies and products) had created a 3D food printer. At the stand, Paul and Jeroen met the startup’s founder, Nina Hoff, who was named “Tech Entrepreneur” at the 2018 Techionista Awards. Paul and Jeroen were immediately enthusiastic about this novel food concept. They started thinking about how they could use it at Schuberg Philis for customers who have lunch or dinner at our Captain’s table. The food printer can, for example, create edible logos and other gimmicks. It offers our chefs the possibility to create unforgettable food experiences, right here at Schuberg Philis. For our 2019 Christmas dinner menu, they put the food printer to the test. They created 800 chocolate prints for the dessert, with accompanying wines. These courses were 95% prepped and came with an instruction email with pictures. Our colleagues could then order a full Christmas menu and create a memorable experience at home with their families. No Christmas stress, with a 😊 from the chefs at Schuberg Philis.

Health week
Every year, we at Schuberg Philis organize a Health Week, because we want to raise awareness for the benefits of a healthy lifestyle—and because we like to have lots of fun together! We also want to give out people the opportunity to discover different types of sports activities and meditation. In fact, some of these activities are organized by our own colleagues. We always make sure that if someone has no experience with some of the sports or activities, the coaches guide them at their own level. One of the highlights of the latest Health Week was a professional guest speaker who explained how important the combination of sports and work performance is. During this week we also offered a daily healthy dish in our restaurant and made sure everyone could get freshly made smoothies or juices.
Family day Radio Kootwijk
Every year we organize a Summer Family Day and Winter Family Day. These days are all about creating unforgettable events for our colleagues and their families. The location of the 2019 summer edition was Radio Kootwijk. A magical place to come together and enjoy lots of workshops and activities for all ages, great food and drinks, and different kinds of musical performances. All created to enjoy each other’s company. We create a festival atmosphere with a special Schuberg Philis touch. These fantastic events are expertly organized by our own event team. Every year we look forward to these special events to show our gratitude to all our hard-working colleagues. Our family days are all about 100% fun and relaxation.

Data Science minor introduction week
Schuberg Philis supports the introduction week of the minor Data Science at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. This week allows students to experience different aspects of data science including ethics, GDPR, data analytics, IoT and the backbone of Data Science. On 28 August 2019, our auditorium was filled with 60 curious students on a journey of discovering IoT and our data center. They could attend various sessions, including a session about a smart factory for which sensor data is collected and manufacturing information can be analyzed in the cloud. This can result in drastically improved manufacturing operations. In parallel, students could attend a tour through our data center in which they learned what is needed behind the scenes to do data science: power, cooling, networking and computing power. We enjoyed the students’ energy and curiosity and are looking forward to hosting this event again next year.

Strength of Autism Seminar
At Schuberg Philis we believe that people can reach their potential if they can play to their strengths. We call that the “alignment of strengths.” So when Sjoerd van der Maaden, CEO of our partner Specialisterren, came to us with the idea to organize a seminar about autism, we were more than happy to host it. Specialisterren is our partner for software testing. They create value for their customers’ digital transformation by providing software testing services with people on the autism spectrum, who are the best testers. They are one of the socially responsible companies—together with AutiTalent, Carapax IT, ITvitae, and Swink—that are specialized in creating jobs for this group of people with specific needs. Under the supervision of Annemarie van Gaal, the audience was treated to an entertaining afternoon of stories from client companies and colleagues from each of the five organizing companies. Each of the cases showed what people with autism can do and how easy it is to provide the special care and support needed. It makes all the difference between being officially incapacitated and living an independent life. Comedian Fabian Franciscus ended the day with humor as he talked about living his life with autism.
