At Schuberg Philis, we create, deliver and operate mission-critical IT systems where reliability, security and quality are absolute priorities. We take full ownership across the entire lifecycle — from initial planning through development to ongoing operations — ensuring systems perform consistently under all conditions. Our engineers work in environments where failure is not acceptable and maintaining high standards is essential.
In the role of Rust Software Engineer, you will contribute to a highly critical platform operating at scale across complex, distributed landscapes. You will help build and maintain systems that process, transport and act on large volumes of data in near real-time, often in high-availability (HA) environments. Your work will focus on developing reliable backend services and data pipelines, leveraging Rust, containerized environments and cloud-native AWS architectures. You will work with streaming technologies (e.g., JetStream, MQTT) and IoT protocols, contributing to platforms that operate across edge and cloud environments.
In this role, you will design, build and operate scalable backend services using Rust, while developing and maintaining streaming data pipelines with technologies such as JetStream and MQTT. You will work with IoT and edge-oriented architectures (non-embedded), deploying and managing services in containerized environments and contributing to AWS-based, high-availability system designs. Alongside building new capabilities, you will continuously improve existing systems through debugging, performance optimization and incremental enhancements, collaborating closely with distributed teams in a shared ownership model.
Our ideal colleague is someone with:
- At least 5-7 years of experience in software development
- Senior-level experience with Rust in production environments
- Knowledge of containerization and cloud-native architectures (AWS preferred)
- Affinity with streaming systems, messaging technologies and large-scale distributed systems
- Interest or experience in IoT or Edge environments (non-embedded)
- Proactive mindset with strong ownership and accountability
- Strong collaboration skills in distributed team setups
Nice to have:
- Experience with MQTT, JetStream, or similar streaming technologies
- Familiarity with IoT protocols and large, complex system landscapes
- Experience designing or working with high-availability (HA) architectures
- Knowledge of Kubernetes and orchestration platforms
- Background in brownfield environments and system evolution
- Experience with performance tuning and optimization
