Innovation, as it should actually be done.

Where innovation meets purpose

At Lab271, we believe innovation should have substance. It’s not about chasing trends or building flashy prototypes that never reach production. For us, innovation means tackling real-world challenges, developing solutions that create lasting business value and deliver a true competitive edge. As Schuberg Philis’ dedicated innovation lab, Lab271 fuses creativity, technical expertise, and hands-on experimentation to address what truly matters.

We break the mold by moving beyond simple proof-of-concept demos. Instead, we focus on proof of value, ensuring that every project results in tangible impact. Our approach starts with validating ideas and extends all the way to designing and implementing solutions that gain stakeholder buy-in and stand the test of time. We don’t believe in fleeting impressions—we build for lasting change.

Lab271 operates as an ecosystem of specialized labs, each with a unique focus but united by a common mission: to explore the frontier of technology and unlock new possibilities. Let’s explore our five core labs, where bold ideas take shape, intelligent solutions evolve, and technology drives real transformation.

Meet our Innovation Stack

Each of our labs is designed as a dedicated space for innovation, addressing critical technological advancements while maintaining a direct connection to business impact. Let’s explore our five core labs, where bold ideas take shape, intelligent solutions evolve, and technology drives real transformation.

The Frontier Tech Lab

The Frontier Tech Lab is Lab271’s early-warning system. While markets debate whether and when technologies such as quantum computing, robotics, new computing architectures, or novel human–machine interfaces will matter, we explore them hands-on in realistic contexts. We don’t make bold predictions or attach fixed timelines. Instead, we focus on understanding how these technologies could affect business models, security, and operations, and on identifying the signals that truly matter. By dissecting frontier technologies early, we help leaders gain perspective rather than hype, enabling informed decisions about what to explore, when to act, and where potential risks or opportunities may emerge.

The Adaptable Architecture Lab

The Adaptable Architecture Lab focuses on turning ideas into systems that last. Innovation often fails in the space between concept and implementation, and this lab exists to bridge that gap. Its guiding principle is simple but demanding: make it work quickly, and then make it work sustainably. We design and build architectures that are resilient, secure, cost-aware, and adaptable, capable of evolving with changing regulations, sovereignty requirements, and operational realities such as IT/OT convergence or environments where cloud-only solutions are not an option. By dissecting and refactoring existing and new systems, we help organizations move from ideas to proof-of-value on architectures that can scale and endure without locking them into fragile or short-term choices.

The Strategic Design Lab

The Strategic Design Lab exists to close the gap between business ambition and technical reality. Strategy and IT often move at different speeds and speak different languages; this lab brings them together. By combining future design with enterprise architecture, we work with customers to create shared future visions—such as what their organization could realistically look like in 2031—and then work backwards from that future. Through backcasting, we identify the capabilities, architectural choices, and decisions required along the way, translating abstract ambitions into concrete roadmaps and visual blueprints that guide both leadership direction and engineering execution.

Artificial Intelligence Lab: making Artificial Intelligence a business reality

The Artificial Intelligence Lab explores how AI is reshaping not just what we build, but how we build it. As software development shifts from writing every line of code to orchestrating AI-driven systems, this lab examines what that means in practice. We dissect AI agents, multi-agent architectures, spec-driven development, emerging agent infrastructure, and patterns of human-AI collaboration that hold up beyond the demo. The focus is on making AI operational, trustworthy, and effective in real environments. Organizations that master these AI-native ways of working gain a structural speed advantage, while those that don’t will see the gap widen with every passing quarter.

Our hands-on approach: turning ideas into impact

At Lab271, we’re not just about talking innovation—we’re about doing it. Our process starts with getting our hands dirty, diving deep into your challenge to uncover where innovation can deliver the most impact. We call it proof of value: a practical, no-nonsense way to show how an idea can solve real problems and create tangible benefits. This isn’t about flashy demos or empty promises—it’s about building something that works and proves its worth from day one.

Hands-on means experimenting fearlessly, taking risks, and constantly learning and growing. We focus on building demos and prototypes—working models of our products and services that allow us to test and refine ideas before launching them. It’s about creating tangible solutions and iterating quickly to ensure they meet real-world demands. Being hands-on also means diving deep to truly understand every layer of the technology stack, from infrastructure to application, leaving no stone unturned.

Once we’ve demonstrated the value, we move into Construct and Align. Here, it’s all about refining the solution while bringing everyone on board. Trust isn’t built in a vacuum—it’s earned through collaboration. We engage stakeholders at every level, ensuring the technology not only meets expectations but that the entire team is aligned and confident in its potential.

We thrive on fearless experimentation. Whether it’s running sprints on new concepts, building prototypes, or exploring the latest in containers and hyperscaler-specific solutions, we’re here to help you master the cutting-edge. Together, we’ll face the unknown, tackle tough challenges, and turn bold ideas into game-changing solutions.

Why Lab271? Innovation should have an impact

Lab271 isn’t just an innovation lab—it’s a proving ground for future technology. We bring together experts, researchers, and customers to explore practical applications of emerging trends. Our insights are backed by leading industry research, including reports from Deloitte, Accenture, and Gartner.

We believe innovation should be impact-driven, hands-on, and fearless. We don’t just talk about new technologies—we experiment, test, and refine until we create real-world solutions that stand up to business demands.
