Azure Platform Engineer

Build the fundament for our Azure Services

Full-time 32-40 uur

Please note: We are not able to consider candidates who are not living and working in the Netherlands. At this moment we are not providing relocation sponsorships.

At Schuberg Philis, we specialize in mission-critical IT, partnering closely with our customers to ensure their most vital systems run smoothly and securely. Our engineers are T-shaped professionals who thrive at the intersection of depth and breadth, combining deep expertise in their fields with a collaborative mindset to ensure 100% customer satisfaction.

In our central Services we design, build, and maintain or reusable digital platforms and digitals assets that empower our customer teams. One of them is our Cloud Enablement Platform: a set of standardized, secure, and opinionated building blocks and services needed to successfully service a cloud environment used by many customers and environments.

As an Azure Platform Engineer, you work in this Services team and help shape and evolve the codebase for these platforms, services, and assets. You engage actively with our engineering community to shape the roadmap and collaborate with customer teams to ensure platform improvements are adopted and proven in real-world, production environments.

What will you do

As an Azure Platform Engineer, you work on the foundations that power mission-critical workloads at scale. You don’t just build infrastructure, you design scalable, reusable platforms and building blocks that work reliably across large, complex environments.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Designing and building Azure-based platform capabilities that support both cloud-native and hybrid workloads tailored for mission-critical use cases.
  • Creating reusable building blocks (infrastructure, patterns, and tooling) that can be adopted by many teams across different customers, each with their own requirements and constraints.
  • Developing and improving CI/CD pipelines and automation that make platform usage safe, predictable, and fast for engineering teams.
  • Engineer secure-by-design governance models, including identity, permissions, networking, and policy enforcement.
  • Contribute to observability, monitoring, and operational standards at platform scale (e.g. Azure Monitor, Datadog).
  • Collaborate closely with customer teams and internal communities to ensure platform features are adopted and effective in real-world production environments.
  • Actively participate in roadmap discussions, technical decision-making, and continuous platform improvement.

What you’ll bring

  • Extensive experience with Azure services.
  • A platform engineering mindset: you think in terms of reusable systems, guardrails, and enablement rather than one-off implementations.
  • Experience designing, building, and deploying infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code principles (e.g. Terraform or OpenTofu).
  • A strong focus on code quality, including peer reviews, automated testing, and maintainable design.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, Github Actions, etc).
  • Ability to thrive in a self-steering environment, taking full ownership of tasks and projects.
  • Eagerness to identify and taking initiative on opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to collaborate with development and operations teams.
  • Experience with engaging internal engineering communities (innersource) to contribute.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native and/or hybrid architectures (Azure + on-prem).

Nice to have

  • Experience with container technologies such as Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with general-purpose programming languages such as Python or Go.
  • Experience with AWS.

This role is centered on Azure platform engineering, with opportunities to broaden into adjacent technologies over time.

What can you expect?

At Schuberg Philis, you’ll join a community of engineers with an awesome combination of exceptionally high security standards, an infatuation with automation, and the power to make a positive, sustainable impact on customers’ business. Due to the nature of our customer engagements, there is no pressure on (billable) hours, but we focus on quality and impact – or how we like to call it “freedom & responsibility”. You know best how to deliver the most value.

You’ll also be embedded in a company committed to helping colleagues grow as people and professionals through training, opportunities for knowledge-sharing, and good old-fashioned fun.

Our offices are high quality workspaces, and we go way beyond what is expected. We have productive equipment, good food and drinks, team outings, family days, labs to experiment with innovative technologies, etc. We’re very active in the AWS community, attending and organizing meetups and conferences, and organizing internal knowledge sharing events.

Everyone we work with and consider working with has a right to equal treatment. The hiring and appraisal process at Schuberg Philis is designed to be thorough and equitable, implementing fair payment, benefits, and opportunities across all demographics.

It is our desire to be a company that brings together multiple nationalities, cultures, religions, genders, abilities, and talents within and across our teams. We welcome colleagues from diverse backgrounds to join Schuberg Philis and actively support diversity and inclusion in the tech industry.
