DevOps Engineer Automation

Build automation that powers the heart of our customers’ most critical operations

Full-time 32-40 Stunden

At Schuberg Philis, we specialize in mission‑critical IT, partnering closely with our customers to keep their most essential systems running smoothly and securely with 100% responsibility. Our impact is driven by engineers who are deeply technical, automate everything they touch, thrive cross‑platform, take full end‑to‑end ownership, stay curious, collaborate naturally, and understand the entire stack -from application behavior to core infrastructure.

We’re looking for engineers who flourish in automation‑first, mission‑critical environments and want to shape the platforms our customers rely on daily. In a self‑steering customer team, you design, build, run, and improve business‑critical systems across the full stack. You automate everything you touch, improve pipelines, troubleshoot multi‑layer issues, and enhance application performance -working in a culture defined by real ownership, deep collaboration, and no silos.

/ What you will do

As a Mission‑Critical Automation Engineer, you design, build, run, and improve platforms that support essential customer processes. You automate everything you touch, troubleshoot across the full stack, collaborate closely with customer teams, and take full end‑to‑end ownership of stability, security, and performance in cross‑platform environments.

Your day-to-day includes:

  • Building automation through scripting and configuration management
  • Owning the full Plan–Build–Run lifecycle
  • Solving multi‑layer issues across OS, network, DB, security, and apps
  • Understanding applications and business workflows to drive improvements
  • Operating and evolving Windows, Linux, and (private)cloud environments
  • Designing and executing controlled releases with Git and pipelines
  • Applying secure authentication and platform‑hardening practices

/ What you bring

  • Strong automation mindset with experience in advanced scripting and configuration management (e.g., Ansible, DSC, Puppet, Chef).
  • Comfortable troubleshooting across OS, network, database, application, and integration layers
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD practices, and applying core security principles on mission-critical platforms.
  • Ownership mindset with curiosity and analytical thinking to understand how systems and applications behave.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform), containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or private).
  • Understanding of application and network architectures, database fundamentals, and release/deployment lifecycles.

/ Who are you?

  • A T-shaped engineer with both depth and broad system awareness.
  • Automation-driven, preferring code over manual work.
  • A pragmatic problem solver who collaborates openly.
  • A self-starter who thrives in a high-trust engineering culture.
  • Motivated by complex systems, customer impact, and continuous improvement.

/ What can you expect?

  • Work with highly skilled engineers focused on automation, security, and real customer impact. We prioritize quality and ownership over billable hours (“freedom & responsibility”).
  • A culture that supports continuous growth through training, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
  • High-quality offices, strong tech community involvement, and opportunities to experiment with new technologies.

If you’re a seasoned engineer in the Netherlands who enjoys deep technical work and customer impact, we’d love to hear from you.
